MS713 · Couplings Experiment

Couplings experiment — vibration behaviour of curved-teeth, pin, flange and claw couplings

Experiments
  • Comparison of four coupling types — curved-teeth, pin, flange and claw
  • Effect of alignment errors: pin and claw couplings with radial offset
  • Production-fault signatures: flange coupling with radial run-out, axial run-out, and pin coupling with pitch fault
  • Identification of coupling faults from the vibration signal
  • Influence of gear-rim hardness on a claw coupling (three stars — 64, 92 and 98 Shore)
  • Load dependency of coupling running behaviour (with MS705)
  • Interpretation of frequency spectra and use of the Sangari vibration analysis software
  • Works together with the MS700 base unit
MS713
Description
Couplings transmit torque between machine elements and, when misaligned or manufactured with defects, become a primary source of machine vibration. The MS713 experiment collects four coupling types and a set of purpose-built faulty specimens so that the characteristic spectrum of each defect — and the comparative behaviour of each coupling design — can be observed directly.
